“Washington is broken. My whole campaign has been premised from the start on the idea that we have to fundamentally change how Washington works.” –Barack Obama
The legislature is at a record disapproval as Gallup announced that Congress had reached a new low, winning the approval of just 9% of the American public. In addition, President Obama is in the same boat. A Christian Science Monitor reports that Obama disapproval rating hits new high in two polls. “An NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey found that 54 percent of respondents did not approve of the job President Obama is doing, and Quinnipiac found 57 percent disapproval.” Both branches of federal government register public discontent.
Even with such low confidence in Congress, the most telling sentiment is expressed in the Fox poll, Voters don’t like President Obama bypassing Congress.
“The new poll finds that 74 percent think the president using executive orders to get around Congress is not how things are supposed to work in our country. That includes 54 percent of Democrats.”
This critical attitude illustrates that America is supposed to be governed under laws passed by a representative legislature, and not by fiat directives of an imperial president. The bipartisan disfavor of the House and Senate stems primarily from the unwillingness of a Harry Reid run Senate that refuses to negotiate with an all too often submissive RINO Republican leadership.
When the Democrats stonewall any modest proposal for cooperative compromise, the timid GOP establishment representatives fold like a cheap suit. The inevitable result is that the time-honored legislative process fails miserably. Government simply does not work. Both parties define a functional lawmaking arrangement as getting what you want by trading off against what the loyal opposition demands. Plainly, Democrats and Republicans are not dedicated to solving actual problems. Their joint mission is devoted to keeping the fractural procedure intact.
Critics like to call this dysfunctional dilemma as a lack of will to form a consensus. This supposition lacks insight into the real nature of politics. Presupposing that government is able to pass positive initiatives, much less administer the programs that Congress authorizes and funds, is not proved out by performance.
James Joyner writes in American Trust in Government at All-Time Lows the following indicators from recent Gallop polls.
- 82% of Americans disapprove of the way Congress is handling its job.
- 69% say they have little or no confidence in the legislative branch of government, an all-time high and up from 63% in 2010.
- 57% have little or no confidence in the federal government to solve domestic problems, exceeding the previous high of 53% recorded in 2010 and well exceeding the 43% who have little or no confidence in the government to solve international problems.
- 53% have little or no confidence in the men and women who seek or hold elected office.
- Americans believe, on average, that the federal government wastes 51 cents of every tax dollar, similar to a year ago, but up significantly from 46 cents a decade ago and from an average 43 cents three decades ago.
- 49% of Americans believe the federal government has become so large and powerful that it poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens. In 2003, less than a third (30%) believed this.
Citizens understand that the Federal Government does not improve the lives of regular people. The two headed party alliance serves the interests of the political class and their crony elites, who buy influence or exact outright quid pro quo arrangements.
The weakening of Congressional powers with ascendency of the executive branch is the greatest danger facing the Republic and the few remaining institutional safeguards. What once was a constitutional checks and balances formula that restricted despotism has become an imperial presidency dictatorship.
Observed and disliked by suffering and struggling Americans, these abuses come out of an arrogance of unaccountability. The lying game is growing old. Who really believes all the prevarications that are presented in the video Obama Lie Montage. For the “true believers” in the Obama cult of personality, his fess-up deceitful words has no meaning; their demonic leader can do no wrong.
The Wall Street Journal offers some slim hope of public awakening in Obama Loses No-Confidence Vote.
“The latest Journal/NBC poll shows a nation deeply concerned about the President and the economy even as the latter has shown signs of improvement. A full 59% say they are either “pessimistic and worried” or “uncertain and wondering” about how the President will perform as he serves out the remaining three years of his term.”
Tear down the old system to bring in the new, is the mantra of the Obama regime. The Daily Caller quotes in the article, Obama to bypass Congress in 2014, rule by agency decree, Louisiana Rep. John Fleming.
“If you look at what this administration has done — from Obamacare to the Environmental Protection Agency to the [immigration enforcement], the rules and regulations and executive orders that he rolls out on the fly — it is quite clear that he ignores what is in the law and he does what he wants to do.”
Now if you are a collectivist and yearn for rule by executive order, you may approve of such conduct. However, those 74% of Americans who think that such behavior “is not how things are supposed to work in our country” certainly are concerned for the survival of our country.
The friendly supporters over on Hotair spin their viewpoint to provide cover for Obama, “It’s hard to convince the public that the president’s a tyrant, after all, when 52 percent think he’s justified in acting as he has.”
Look a little closer for the ideological hypocrisy out of the progressive camp when the same standard applies to one of their devils.
“Naturally it’s the liberals, the most zealously anti-Bush partisans of the last decade, who sneered at Dubya for acting like “King George” with his assertions of executive power, who are deepest in the tank for King Barack. The other traditional elements of Obama’s base are also in the tank, of course.”
None of this flexible approach to presidency approval fosters confidence in Big Government. Since many of the same policies are carried on with each succeeding administration, the differences are often hard to identify. Style changes and rhetoric have different twists, but the failures continue, as the society crumbles.
Frustration with this trend is expressed by Pat Buchanan in Is the Tea Party’s Dream an Illusion? While fiscal responsibility is needed, the stakes are much higher.
“Can it be that the Tea Party’s dream of a balanced budget, and of a government that ceases to eat up ever more of the GDP, is simply an act of self-delusion?
Have the beneficiaries of Big Government become so powerful that any champion of the national interest who challenges them in fixed battle invites almost certain defeat?
For today, America appears to be maintaining speed, or even accelerating, toward that cliff that they all warn us is out there.”
That precipice is existential for the like of retired Maj. Gen. Paul E. Vallely, the chairman of Stand Up America. His calls to return America to its constitutional roots by removing “usurpers” from the seat of power in Washington, is a novel concept. However, the co-conspirators in the District of Corruption are far too fearful to being called a racist to impeach this rogue POTUS.
“Now is the time for something a dear friend calls ‘conviction without eviction,’ an end that can be brought on through a vote of no confidence, locally, statewide and nationally,” Vallely claims. “This is just a first step in what can only be repaired over time, but it is achievable in the short term and starts to remove Obama’s ability to continue his ruinous ways now.”
So it falls to the general public to start a grassroots movement that echoes the no confidence indictment against the cowards that betray our constitutional system. In this respect the parliamentary procedure in the UK offers a desirable method to bring down a government. Since the US has distinct separations of power, our problem is how is it possible to enforce penalties for treasonous conduct upon the executive branch?
Maybe the best alternative is to ramp up the public clamor against the business as usual Beltway mindset. Only a maximum national strike that shuts down the government, not by phony budget confrontations on the Hill, but from the righteous outrage of middle class households that understand their future is on the line.
The rest of the world already has demonstrated no confidence in the Obama administration. That alone does not necessarily mean much, but in this case foreigners know what many Americans refuse to admit.
Only bold leadership and a fundamental rebalancing of power back to individual state jurisdictions can defeat the federal government hydra. Since trust in government is in short supply, further denial of the severity of our mutual plight will never resolve the crisis. Act as responsible citizens and have the courage to withdraw your allegiance to an illegitimate regime.
“It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native criminal class except Congress.” -Mark Twain
