Last time we left off with the question of, what are air purifiers really purifying, considering that fresh O2 is what purifies stagnant air. Did you realize the only major difference between the air inside and outside of your dwelling place is the fact that outside air is being constantly rejuvenated with fresh oxygen. You will find some of the same pollutants both inside and outside of your house and depending on the environment it may be worse or better. So let me ask you this, why is it not a common issue for a person to get asthma from being outdoors for a prolonged time even if they live outdoors as opposed to living indoors? I’m speaking in light of the air pollutants being the greatest causative factor here.
While you are thinking on that one, I will remind you of the greatest determining factor which is once again . . . . the fresh exchange of oxygen. This is a variable indoors but is a constant outdoors. However, there is a very obvious difference when you take into consideration the air surrounding a city compared to the country. On an elementary level the less trees, and plants that are present, the less oxygen there is to be produced. I will be touching on the subject of plants again before we are through, so just tuck that away for now.
Does any of this make sense to you? The only way to purify your air is to exchange dead, stagnant, oxygen depleted air with fresh air full of fresh oxygen not lacking even 1 percent of those twenty one parts that are present in it. To beat a dead horse, it is the same basic difference of drinking water from a stagnant pond or a flowing stream. Which one do you think is most likely to make you sick? I’m sure it would be absurd to explain to you why but the same goes for the air you breathe indoors.
Don’t think I’m telling you that you wasted your time and money to purchase your air purifier, especially for those of you who will benefit most from it. I will be getting to the reasons of why you should and should not purchase as we bring this series to a close in this posting. Just so you are a little more convinced about the fact I don’t have it all out for air purifiers, I will pull the rug out from under a more inexpensive way that is touted to also purify the air . . . beeswax. Even if you are burning a beeswax based candle you are not purifying the air anymore than a machine is, considering that neither of these methods does anything for the fresh exchange of oxygen. Beeswax does neutralize the positive ions put forth by the very things that an air purifier sucks up but as I stated it does not produce any fresh oxygen into the environment so what is it really purifying?
The real air purifiers
I’m sure at this point you are wondering how on earth do you purify air if beeswax and the machines lay pseudo claim to this ability. To those of you who have been paying close attention it will not come as a surprise to you when I say . . . PLANTS. I know it doesn’t sound very sexy does it? However, it is impossible to achieve air purification without them considering they are the only natural oxygen producing factories that have ever existed upon the face of this earth. Unless you know of some genetically modified breed of animal that has the same ability to consume carbonic acid gas and produce oxygen as a byproduct.
I’m not a tree huger or anything but there really is no other sustainable, cost effective, easier or even better method of purifying your air than, natures’ way. You see you get the added bonus of eliminating the greatest threat to your person, which is the elimination of that carbonic acid gas which the plant just so happens to rely on for its very existence while in exchange you get, drum roll please ………….. a fresh supply of oxygen. If you just so happen to go crazy and fill your house to the brim with them I don’t think there would be much cause for opening your windows very often. I’m not suggesting that you do so by any means.
Does this make sense? Plants equal both a removal of carbonic acid gas and a fresh exchange of oxygen. Does this not, in fact meet the criteria of air purification? Machines and beeswax equal neither but only the neutralization of pollutants. How does this meet the criteria for air purification? Let me also let you in on a little bonus you just may not be aware of, plants like all natural surroundings in nature produce negative ions which help to disrupt some of the harmful electromagnetic effects of all of our high speed techie gizmos that we surround ourselves with and thereby add minutes, days, months and so on to our person rather than the opposite. On that same note so does a good influx of fresh air into your dwelling place and will do all those who are glued to the computer and TV screens much good to disrupt the bombardment of all of those positive ions along with the constant bombardment of the primary colors. I will have to make a note to do a post on negative and positive ions but just stay tuned for that one.
Did You Know
I know I am being hard on these air purifiers but give me some time and I will make it up to you. Now on the other hand, these companies tout how great their various filters are that these machines have and how well they capture all of these pollutants in the air. Well did you realize you are actually in possession of the most state of the art design in air filtration on this planet? Okay, so just where would that happen to be? Right between your eyes of course, front in center on your visage . . . your lovely nose. Now, you are probably thinking that if it did such a state of the art job why do people end up with all of these respiratory problems and things such as asthma from all of these pollutants in the air. That’s a great question. Here is a simple answer, because people don’t really use it like they should. Your nose is somewhat of a use it or lose it thing.
When the nose is put to proper use as the primary breathing mechanism of your person, which it truly is and was created to be, it remains free for the most part of those irritants and doesn’t become a junk yard for disease and sickness. On the other hand, when it is only half used and not kept properly cleared through continual use, things tend to literally stick around and build up there and begin to work their magic overtime. So it can play the role of gate keeper or as the host to sickness and disease but we are the determining factor in that happening. Your nose deserves the utmost of daily attention considering it is that important to your overall health and productivity. Buggers are just the result of your nose doing an excellent job, sounds gross but it is true. The hairs and mucus help to change the temperature of the air and remove as much hitch hikers as possible before that air hits your throat. It also helps the oxygen in that air to go much deeper into your lungs and instill a more tranquil state on your being as opposed to shallow mouth breathing. So besides keeping out of trouble, it is also good to keep your nose clean for the sake of your overall health.
Why you shouldn’t buy an air purifier
In consideration of what we have discussed so far about air purification, these are the reasons I present to you, not to largely base your decision of purchasing an air purifier:
- It filters a proportionate amount of air.
- Removes pollutants such as dust, pollen, mold spores, odors, dust mites and so on.
- It has a great filter that is able to further trap bacteria and other airborne particles.
- It is doctor recommended.
- It is touted as a medical class device.
- It has the lowest micron reduction rate.
I’m sure all of those keen eyes caught the fact that I have hit on most of the optimal selling points that are used to get you to part with your money. In other words I would not advise you to go out and purchase one for any of the reasons that are used to persuade you to make the purchase in the first place. Why? Like I have already mentioned neither air purifiers nor beeswax for that matter actually purify your air. They do a wonderful job at neutralizing the pollutants in the air but fail to fulfill what their name in fact states that they are. An air filter is a more fitting name rather than air purifier. I supposed to some it may be just as insignificant as to call a Palm Tree, Palm grass which is exactly what it is, grass. Just for the record I was very shocked when I found that out in my Marine Biology Class in my Senior Year in High School in Florida but it is what it is. So there you have it, it is not a good reason to spend all of that money on that air purifier to purify your air because it is not and cannot by design fulfill this task. It is of course a great reason to get it to filter your air.
The Best Scenario
Here is the perfect scenario for defeating your respiratory problems, asthma and a host of other ailments that bombard you:
- Make a daily habit of opening your windows and letting fresh air into your place of dwelling for as long as possible.
- Learn how to breathe properly (You can start with this free 3 day course.)
- Get an air filter (purifier) of your choice to help reduce the pollutants.
- Purchase plants that have a high oxygen output.(You can find some here.)
- Reduce or eliminate as much as possible the use of synthetic candles in exchange for soy and beeswax.
- Reduce the use of or eliminate conventional aerosol type sprays in exchange for more organic based methods of air freshening.
- Reduce or eliminate the use of chemical laden cleaning products in exchange for more organic based products.
- Give your ultimate air filtration system (your nose) the T.L.C. it truly deserves and see how your health begins to soar.
Like I have been saying all along I’m not against air filters, I mean purifiers considering they make a wonderful addition to any plan to provide an excellent environment for your health and well being. They are especially necessary in cases where an individual has a sensitivity to those myriad of pollutants that we have mentioned.
However, it would do you much good to use it in conjunction with:
- Proper breathing.
- Airing out your dwelling place.
When you mix an air purifier with these three things you really create a force to be reckoned with as far as preventing yourself from experiencing the menacing effects of asthma, allergies and the like. This is what I would call the dream team of home environmental defense. Just think of it as interlinking fire of a 360 degree perimeter. All of you soldiers or veterans out there realize what a powerful defense this is. Proper breathing compliments both the added oxygen from the plants and the fresh air and helps to get more cells infused with that well needed influx of O2 in order to function better and keep you going longer. Then you have the backup of the air purifier which further reduces the interference of the pollutants, which is aided might I add by the negative ions produced by the plants. Hey, if you throw in some beeswax in here folks then we literally have the ultimate home defense scenario.
