Grass Fed Beef and Fatty Acid Ratios

You’ve probably heard a lot about the healthiest meat. Beef does not normally top the list. While the beef cattle industry wants you to believe that beef is the meat you should eat – it’s what’s for dinner – most health experts agree that eating meat, beef especially, is not your best choice for improved health.

But those opinions change when we come to grass fed beef. Beef products from cattle that are grass fed have a huge number of benefits.

The History of Cattle Feed

Cattle have been on this planet for a very, very long time, but only in the last few thousand years have humans become agrarian and begun farming beef cattle. In the early years of beef cattle production, those cattle grazed and ate grass.

Recently, beef cattle have been converted to grain as a food, because beef cattle production becomes cheaper and easier with grain feeding.

The problem is, cattle – beef cattle or milk cattle – did not evolve to eat whole grain, or any grain at all. Cattle’s natural food is grass.

One of the primary reasons grass fed beef is far superior is that grain fed beef has a skewed ration of fatty acids Omega 6 and Omega 3. You may have heard that we need fatty acids, and that’s certainly true.

The Simple Truth of Why Grass-Fed is Healthier

If you’ve never eaten grass-fed beef before then you do not truly know what beef is supposed to taste like. Feeding cattle on the feedlot, a man-made invention has changed the taste of beef. Pasture raised cattle have 50% less saturated fat which is another reason it is less greasy and healthier for you. You will not be left with a slimy feeling on the roof of your mouth. Next time you eat a Big Mac (but don’t), you’ll know what I mean.

Eating pasture raised beef will help you to:
• Lose weight
• Reduce your risk of cancer
• Reduce your risk of diabetes
• Improve your heart health
• Decrease inflammation and arthritis
• Reduce your risk of allergies

The scientific evidence is now beyond reproach and the reason these health benefits are all possible is simple; cattle were meant to eat green, leafy, natural plants, not grain. When cattle eat grain their fat contains a higher amount of omega-6 fatty acids. When cattle consume green leafy plants, as they were designed to do, their fat contains a higher amount of omega-3 fatty acid. This improves the omega-6 to omega-3 ratio (see below).

Scientists have discovered that a diet higher in omega 3 fatty acids improves health for a variety of reasons. But one of the most important things it does is help decrease inflammation in the body naturally. Inflammation, it turns out, is at the root cause of many illnesses seen in America, and around the world, today. We recommend you use natural remedies whenever possible.

Fatty Acid Ratios

What we really need are Omega 6 and Omega 3 in a 1:1 ratio.

What we usually get in our food is a ratio of 15:1 up to over 50:1.

This is especially true of meat, beef in particular.

Why Are Fatty Acid Ratios Important?

When you have a proper ratio of fatty acids, as you can get from grass fed beef, you have a decreased risk of dementia, heart disease, cancer and stroke. These are scientifically proven benefits of proper ratios of Omega 6 and 3.

Why Grass Fed Beef?

Would you like to:

  • Provide the best quality meat for you and your family?
  • Provide you and your family with a healthier alternative to red meat that still is red meat?
  • Eat beef that is leaner than the meat that you can find in your local grocery store?
  • Have a meat that is safe to eat? You wouldn’t have to worry about mad cow disease?
  • Help the environment without changing your lifestyle?
  • Help provide clean water for the future, just by making a different shopping choice?
  • Stop worrying about E. coli in your meat?
  • Be able to eat red meat, even if you believed in the past that it wasn’t healthy enough?
  • Lose weight, but still be able to eat meat?

If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, maybe trying grass fed beef or pasture raised beef is for you? Your life is very busy. Every day, you spend lots of time at the office. When you get home, you want to spend time with your family and friends and relax. Why should you be concerned about what your meat ate? Does it really even matter? The answer, in short, is yes.

You should be concerned, because what your meat ate can affect your health and does affect your environment. It’s very simple to understand this: the healthier that your meat is, the healthier that you, your family, and the environment will be.

You may be a little skeptical at first, at how this is going to affect my health. How can eating a certain meat and giving it to my family make me feel better? Let’s quickly look at some of the health benefits, and if you still aren’t convinced, you can see the science behind grass-fed beef.

Why Grass Fed Beef is Better

The beef cattle production industry does not want you to know, of course, but grass fed beef is really far healthier than grain fed beef. Beef cattle fed on grass provide the fatty acids you need in the correct ratios.
